DAWLISH 11/08/2012

Today I had a few hours to spare so I decided to head to Dawlish Warren to spend a couple of hours photographing on the bridge.

Afterwards I had to head to exeter for another engagement.

Evening Devon Ranger 10/08/2012

Today I decided to go out for my last required fgw sleeper 57. But also had time to do some moves.

Earlier in the day I had gen that 60039 was being moved from St Blazey and was due through Plymouth around 8pm.

I headed first to Plymouth. Once there I had time to do a trip to Ivybridge for a hst back off Ivybridge. Once back in Plymouth I headed over to the road outside Plymouth Eye Hospital and waited for the 6C43 with the 60 in. It turned up got a nice photo and a winning 60 for sight. I then had time for a quick trip to Newton Abbot and back to Plymouth for the sleeper.

Tripod set up with camera on it arrived and was my required 57. Photo taken, on the train for the ride home.

A good day, a winning loco for sight, a winner for haulage and a few miles on the board.

Holiday Part 5 - 28.08.2011

Today it was time to leave Yorkshire and head North to Scotland. I had a ticket to Edinburgh where my Central Scotland Rover would take over.

I was booked on the 1001 off York where 91101 (In Flying Scotsman Livery) arrived. It was a nice leisurely run to Scotland with plenty to see on the way. North of Newcastle was new track and completed the East Coast main line.

Holiday Part 4 27.08.2011

Todays plan and the final day on the Freedom of North East Rover was to do some route. The day started out by heading to Doncaster for the FTPE service to Cleethorpes. After about an hour in Cleethorpes and in a torrential downpour we then headed to Barton-On-Humber before heading back to Grimsby where the Wetherspoons were done 1) Ice Barque and 2) The Yarborough Hotel. Afer a walk across the road to the station we then did the Saturday only service from Grimsby to Sheffield via Gainsborough Central. Around 2 hours were had on the 142.

After we got to Sheffield it was a dash for a train to Doncaster where there was time to visit a Wetherspoons for tea (The Old Angel) . Then back to the station for the East Coast HST to Harrogate. The power car to arrive was the same train that was on the Hull train the previous day and with the reversal at Leeds this yielded a winning power car to Harrogate where the Harrogate Wetherspoons was completed (The Winter Gardens) for a quick drink.

Back to the station for the final train of the day back to York via the other half of the Harrogate Loop (potentially one day that could be operated London Underground Stock). Another good day and the final day in Yorkshire was a good one.

Tomorrow was time to head North to Scotland.

Holiday Part 3 26.08.2011

Day three's plan was a trip to Sheffield. We headed to Leeds first where me and Dave went seperate ways as we both had different stuff to target. I headed to Sheffield via Barnsley. At sheffield I spent a few hours doing unit bashing between sheffield and meadowhall.

When the rain turned heavy I headed to Doncaster and then up to Leeds. I then saw a train to Ilkley. checked on the map I was valid and I was and headed up to there as this was new track. When I got there I headed out to the town and noticed the sign for a Wetherspoons (The Listers Arms) and headed there for a late lunch. I then headed back to shipley on a bradford bound train to get a small piece of track in and then headed towards Bingley to meet Dave.

We then headed back to leeds and then back to York  and then to Doncaster to catch East Coast's Hull bound service. We caught this and then the plan was to alight at Selby but due to a broken down train in selby the train was diverted and I got some extra bonus track. We eventually alighted at Brough and then headed back to Doncaster for a quick tea in one of the Wetherspoons (The Gatehouse) before heading back to York.

Holiday Part 2 25.08.2011

Day 2 started out with me and Dave heading to Newcastle where there was time to do some photos before getting the train to Middlesborough which was a very scenic journey along the coast. Arrival at Middlesborough then saw us do the track down to Saltburn-bySea and back again. There was time at Middlesborugh to quickly do one of the Wetherspoons The Issac Wilson.

Then it was the long trip to Whitby which is 99% single track so was a nice relaxing trip. Dave got off at Grosmont as he was going after some required steam locos. I was doing the track all the way to Whitby where I had about 20 mins before heading back to Grosmont to do some diesel and steam on the North York Moors Railway (NYMR) meeting back up with Dave. We headed back to Gothland where we had an hours break. Goathland was the village where the TV series Heartbeat was filmed and much of the signage was left there.

We then headed back to Pickering for the last train of the day and where a mad dash was made through Pickering for the bus to Malton. Luckily it was late running and we made it getting into Malton in time for the FTPE 185 to York.

Back at York both Wetherspoons were done firstly 1) The Punch Bowl nearest the station followed by 2) The Postern Gate which was a walk across town. After this we returned back to the hotel for the night.
